Membership Newsletter - March 2021

Hello Rotary Passport South Members! Our last meeting was coincidently held during World Rotaract Week and thus we took the opportunity to learn more about our member, Hanna Kim, a dual member of both our club and The Rotaract Club of Mississauga. Hanna is also an Interact alumnus and has already plunged at the opportunities within Rotary by joining the District Interact Committee!

We also had a celebration as we have officially hit 30 members of our club! This month we inducted our 30th member, Lorraine Menezes, who is a Rotaract alumnus from The Rotaract Club of Mississauga.

To top it off, Serena Bufalino was designated to receive a Paul Harris Fellow recognition as a special expression of appreciation from Rotary Passport Club South. A contribution to The Rotary Foundation is an investment in the ideal of goodwill, peace and understanding. That is an ideal held high by Rotarians the world over, and one that Serena Bufalino clearly shares. Congratulations Serena!

March Speaker Recap: Radius Child & Youth Services

Thank you to our member Usha Seruwam for making the connection and having Radius Child and Youth Services come to our meeting. Margaret McConnell, Fundraising Manager, and Melissa Maltar, Manager of Clinical Services had an excellent presentation for us to understand the organizations mission and services.

There are several ways Rotarians can help:
  • Attend a Radius event
  • Spread the word about Radius. Although Radius is the largest child abuse treatment charity in Ontario we are not well known to the general public. Follow us on social media, direct people to our website or have them reach out directly to me.
  • Volunteer for one of our event committees. We are always looking for new members.
  • Donate – whether the donation is financial or an auction item for one of our events, everything helps.

Participate in World Council!

The World Council is a round table for higher perspective dialogue of any matter affecting the well-being of our humanity or our natural world. Its purpose is to resolve each matter through discussion by analyzing its present state, envisioning its desired state, and agreeing to a course of action that will attain this desired state

The World Council table taps into a way of being... with one another, to one another, and for one another...rooted in the commonality and equality of our inner greatness...that greatness which innately understands what truly matters to us all, and intuitively responds for the greater good of all. Without exception, the following attributes of universal, unconditional human greatness are witnessed at each World Council Table...
  • the ability to listen and truly consider others’ perspectives
  • the insight to recognize and accept the solution that best serves the whole
  • the generating and contributing of ideas that are greater than oneself
  • the knowledge and attitude that there is always a solution
  • the concern for all aspects of life and all living things
  • the confidence to discuss mindfully – clear of personal agendas
  • the capability to work in unity toward a common goal
  • the grace to communicate with respect
Virtual discussion sessions of the next World Council sessions are being held on April 11th and April 18th, 2021 by invites. Please contact Norma Gamble at norma@normagamble.com to secure a spot for this round table.

Rotary Foundation Virtual Gala, May 12, 2021

RI Director Valerie Wafer is hosting a Virtual Gala to raise funds for our Foundation. The ticket price is $110 USD with $100 going as a donation to The Rotary Foundation. We are all aware of the decline in contributions to our Foundation, but the demand has doubled.

The online Gala event, "Celebrate our Foundation!" will be held on Wednesday, May 12 from 8-9 pm ET. It will be a fast-paced 60-minute variety style show featuring Rotary dignitaries, celebrities, musicians, entertainers, and more. The Foundation supporter will get a charitable tax receipt of $100, along with 100 Paul Harris Recognition points. You will get credit towards your District's Foundation goals and if the Foundation supporter chooses to donate more, either at registration or during the event, then all those extra funds are credited to your District and your member.

Please visit this site and consider getting your ticket.
